Alcohol and breast cancer in the Swiss Canton of Vaud

Indulging in alcohol may give rise to breast cancer in women.

This study investigated the hypothesis that fondness for alcohol may promote the development of breast cancer. Researchers evaluated the alcohol drinking habits of 230 breast cancer patients and 507 cancer free women residing in the Swiss Canton of Vaud between 1990 and 1995.

Researchers attributed 25% of all cases of breast cancer in the study population to alcohol consumption. This study demonstrated that breast cancer is highly likely to be diagnosed in women who enjoy drinking generous amounts of alcohol regularly.
