Consumption of Ultra-Processed Food and Drinks and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia in the MCC-Spain Study

Indulgence in ultra-processed foods and drinks may promote the development of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).

This study evaluated the intake of ultra-processed foods and drinks in relation to the development of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) in adults. Researchers compared the ultra-processed food consumption habits of 230 patients diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia and 1634 persons without a history of the disease.

Researchers observed that many patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia were on diets rich in ultra-processed foods and drinks. This study suggests that preference for ultra-processed foods and drinks may stack the odds of developing chronic lymphocytic leukemia against an individual.
