Ultra-processed food intake and animal-based food intake and mortality in the Adventist Health Study-2

Indulgence in red meat and ultra-processed foods may raise an individual's risk of suffering from premature death.

This study focused on the link between fondness for ultra-processed and animal-based foods and mortality risk. Researchers tracked the food choices and mortality records of more than 75,000 men and women. During the course of the study, over 9,000 deaths were recorded.

Researchers noticed a high number of deaths among frequent consumers of red meat and ultra-processed foods. The data from this study indicate that favoring the ingestion of diets rich in ultra-processed foods and red meat may put an individual at risk of dying prematurely.
