Onion and Garlic Intake and Breast Cancer, a Case-Control Study in Puerto Rico

Consistent consumption of onions and garlic may help foil the development of breast cancer.

This study examined the association between high dietary intake of onions and garlic and the prevalence of breast cancer in Puerto Rico. Researchers compared the rate of onion and garlic consumption among 314 women with breast cancer and another 346 females with no history of the disease.

Researchers identified an inverse association between increased consumption of onions and garlic and decreased risk of breast cancer. This study suggests that onions and garlic may be potent dietary weapons a woman can deploy in her quest to preventing breast cancer.
