Wine, beer and spirits and risk of oral and pharyngeal cancer: a case-control study from Italy and Switzerland.

Increased intake of alcoholic beverages, such as beer, wine, and spirits, may increase an individual's predisposition to acquiring cancer of the mouth and pharynx.

​This study was carried out to evaluate the impact of consistent drinking of alcoholic beverages, such as wine, spirits, and beer on oral (mouth) and pharyngeal (throat) cancer risk. Researchers assessed the alcohol consumption pattern of 749 individuals with oral and pharyngeal cancer and 1,772 cancer-free persons. 

Researchers found out that the rates of oral and pharyngeal cancer were high among consumers of beer, wine, and spirits in the study population. This study reveals that fondness for alcoholic beverages may pose a great danger to the health of our mouth and throat.
