Association of dietary fiber intake with newly-diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus in middle-aged Chinese population

Following a high fiber diet may shield an individual from type 2 diabetes mellitus.

This study explored the impact of a high fiber diet on the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Researchers tracked the diet and rates of new-onset type 2 diabetes mellitus among 3,250 middle-aged Chinese men and women.

Researchers noticed that strict adherence to a high fiber diet brightened an individual's chances of avoiding type 2 diabetes mellitus. This study provides strong evidence that generous consumers of fiber-rich foods may enjoy greater protection against type 2 diabetes mellitus.
