Fruit and Vegetable Intake and Mortality: Results From 2 Prospective Cohort Studies of US Men and Women and a Meta-Analysis of 26 Cohort Studies

Reduced risk of dying from cancer, cardiovascular, and respiratory disease is associated with greater consumption of fruits and vegetables.

This study investigated the influence high dietary ingestion of fruits and vegetables has on mortality risk. Researchers tracked the eating habits and mortality records of over 100,000 US men and women.

The team of researchers discovered that generous consumers of fruits and vegetables were less likely to suffer from deaths due to cancer, cardiovascular, respiratory, and other causes. The results of this study suggest that including more fruits and vegetables in our diets may decrease cancer, respiratory, and cardiovascular disease mortality rates.
