Greater fruit and vegetables consumption, and adherence to a Mediterranean type of diet reduces the risk for asthma in children; a systematic review and meta-analysis

Adequate intake of fruits and vegetables may help ward off asthma in children.

Can high dietary ingestion of fruits and vegetables reduce the risk of asthma in children? Using dietary and health data obtained from nearly 400,000 children who participated in 45 studies, researchers set out to determine the relationship between the intake of fruits and vegetables and a child's propensity to become asthmatic.

After analyzing the data, researchers observed that children on high fruit and vegetable diets had better chances of staying free from asthma. This study indicated that consistent consumption of fruits and vegetables may confer children with significant protection against asthma.
