Consumption of fresh fruit rich in vitamin C and wheezing symptoms in children. SIDRIA Collaborative Group, Italy (Italian Studies on Respiratory Disorders in Children and the Environment)

Generous intake of fruits high in vitamin C may protect children, particularly with a history of asthma, from wheezing.

This study explored the association between elevated intake of vitamin C-containing fruits and the development of wheezing in children. Researchers looked at the dietary habits and incidence rates of wheezing among 18,737 Italian children within the age bracket of 6-7 years.

Researchers noticed that wheezing occurred at a lower frequency among children, especially among those with asthma, fond of consuming fruits rich in vitamin C. This study demonstrated that high dietary ingestion of fruits loaded with vitamin C may cut down the prevalence of wheezing in children, particularly among asthmatics.
