Physical activity and risk of cognitive decline: a meta-analysis of prospective studies

Adopting a physically active lifestyle may reduce an individual's risk of experiencing a decline in cognitive function.

This study assessed whether being physically active can influence an individual's chances of developing cognitive impairment. Researchers compiled data obtained from over 33,000 men and women who participated in 15 studies.

Researchers discovered that participants who exercised regularly were less likely to suffer from cognitive decline. "The present results suggest a significant and consistent protection for all levels of physical activity against the occurrence of cognitive decline," the authors concluded.
