The beverage maté: a risk factor for cancer of the head and neck.

Generous intake of mate may promote the development of cancer of the mouth, pharynx, larynx, and esophagus.

​This study assessed the association between mate consumption and the occurrence of head and neck cancer. Data extracted from eligible studies were reviewed for this the study. 

Researchers noticed that the odds of being diagnosed with oral, esophageal, laryngeal, and pharyngeal cancer was stacked against mater drinkers. The results of this study indicate that frequent intake of mate may contribute positively to the development of cancers in the head and neck region.
