Parental Education and the Association between Fruit and Vegetable Consumption and Asthma in Adolescents: The Greek Global Asthma Network (GAN) Study

Diets that favor the consumption of fruits and vegetables may help curb the onset of asthma in adolescents.

This study examined the hypothesis that adolescents with high intake of fruits and vegetables are less likely to develop asthma. Researchers categorized the study population comprising 1,934 adolescents into high and low consumers of fruits and vegetables.

Researchers noticed that adolescents belonging to the high fruit and vegetable eating group enjoyed better protection against asthma than their colleagues who ate little or none of these plant foods. This study further emphasized the important role consistent ingestion of fruits and vegetables play in the prevention of asthma in adolescents.
