Smoking and adrenal cancer mortality among United States veterans.
Cigarette smoking may up an individual's risk of dying from adrenal cancer.
This study explored the relationship between cigarette smoking and the likelihood of dying from cancer of the adrenal gland. Researchers from the National Institute of Cancer, Maryland, USA, tracked the smoking habits and mortality records of nearly 250,000 US veterans for 26 years.
The team of experts observed that current smokers were 5 times more likely to die from adrenal cancer than non-smokers. The adrenal cancer mortality risk was found to increase further among subjects who smoked more than 20 cigarettes per day. The findings of this study add to the existing evidence that cigarette smoking may increase the incidence of mortality from adrenal cancer.
