Fructose-rich beverages and risk of gout in women.

High consumption of fructose-rich beverages may raise the odds of developing gout in women.

This study examined whether an association exists between the intake of fructose-rich beverages and a woman's risk of developing gout. Data on the dietary habits and incidence rate of gout among 78,906 were obtained through questionnaires and hospital records.

Researchers observed that gout was more likely to occur among habitual consumers of fructose-containing beverages, include sugar-sweetened drinks, than non-consumers of these beverages. The results of this study show that women who love taking fructose-rich beverages may be highly prone to come down with gout.
