Smoking and its association with cataract: results of the Andhra Pradesh eye disease study from India.

Cigarette smokers may have high risk of developing cataracts.

​This study examined the link between cigarette smoking and the occurrence of cataracts. Researchers utilized data obtained from more than 10,000 Indian men and women who participated in the Andhra Pradesh Eye Disease Study. 

The research team discovered that cigarette smoking promoted the formation of cataracts. Evidence from this study indicate that cigarette smokers may have a high tendency to develop cataracts.
