Dietary intake of total vegetable, fruit, cereal, soluble and insoluble fiber and risk of all-cause, cardiovascular, and cancer mortality: systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies

Diets that promote the intake of fiber-rich foods, such as fruits, vegetables, and cereals, may help reduce total, cancer, cardiovascular mortality burden.

This study examined whether increased intake of fiber-containing foods is tied to decreased mortality risk by means of a meta-analysis. Researchers collated and analyzed data extracted from a pool of eligible studies.

Researchers found out that the likelihood of dying from cancer, cardiovascular disease, and other causes declined appreciably among habitual consumers of fiber from vegetables, fruits, and cereals. This study concluded that "higher dietary fiber including different type and food sources of fiber intake were associated with lower risk of mortality."
