The impact of a vegetarian diet on chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression - a systematic review

Sticking to a vegetarian diet may enhance kidney function in patients with chronic kidney disease.

This study focused on how vegetarian diet influences the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Researchers compiled information on the dietary habits and kidney function of 346 men and women who participated in 4 randomized controlled trials (RCTs).

Researchers noticed an improvement in the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR)—a marker of kidney function—of patients with CKD on vegetarian diets. The results of this study showed that switching to a vegetarian diet may be of great benefit to patients with CKD.
