Cannabis-Induced Acute Pancreatitis: A Systematic Review
Frequent use of cannabis may facilitate the occurrence and recurrence of acute pancreatitis.
This meta-analysis investigated the connection between cannabis use and an individual's tendency to suffer from acute pancreatitis (AP). Researchers utilized data and evidence drawn out from 16 published studies involving 26 cases of cannabis-induced acute pancreatitis in individuals under the age of 35.
Researchers discovered that cannabis intake triggered the onset and recurrence of acute pancreatitis. In contrast, cessation of cannabis use was found to halt re-occurrence of acute pancreatitis in some patients in this study. "Cannabis is a possible risk factor for AP and recurrent AP, occurring primarily in young patients under the age of 35 years," the authors concluded.
