Effects of Dietary Pulse Consumption on Body Weight: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Daily consumption of 1 serving of pulses may help an individual shed off excess weight.

The objective of this meta-analysis was to synthesize data from previously published studies that examined the role dietary intake of pulses play in the promotion of weight loss. Data from 21 randomized controlled trials (RCT) were analyzed for this study. 

Researchers observed that participants who ate 1 serving of pulses per day lost 0.34 kg over a 6-week period. This study recommends the inclusion of dietary pulses as part of a healthy weight loss program.
