Alcohol consumption and self-reported sunburn: a cross-sectional, population-based survey.

Heavy consumers of alcohol may be predisposed to having sunburn.

Sunburn is an established risk factor for skin cancer. This study assessed alcohol consumption in relation to the subsequent development of sunburn. Researchers charted alcohol intake against self-reported cases of sunburn among nearly 300,000 American adults.

Researchers observed that the odds of suffering from sunburn was high among heavy drinkers of alcohol. "Excessive drinking is associated with higher rates of sunburn among American adults," the authors noted.
