The association of ultra-processed food consumption with adult mental health disorders: a systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis of 260,385 participants

Elevated consumption of ultra-processed foods may favor the onset of depression.

This meta-analysis explored the incidence of mental health disorders among 260,385 men and women who took part in 26 studies. Dietary and mental health records of the participants were utilized for this study.

Researchers noted that the chances of experiencing depression moved by 11% in the upward direction for every 10% increment in the rate of consumption of ultra-processed foods. Based on the data from this meta-analysis, it can be concluded that fans of ultra-processed foods are prone to suffer from depression.
