Consumption of ultra-processed foods is associated with depression, mesocorticolimbic volume, and inflammation

The odds of suffering from depression may be stacked against passionate consumers of ultra-processed foods.

This study was conducted to throw more light on the risk of depression associated with the consumption of ultra-processed foods. Researchers collated data on the food choices and occurrence of depressive symptoms among 152 adult men and women.

Researchers found out that lovers of ultra-processed foods were more prone to experience symptoms of depression than non-consumers of these foods. Based on the data from this study, it can be concluded that ultra-processed foods can trigger the onset of depression in men and women.
