Dietary fruits and vegetables and risk of cardiovascular diseases in elderly Chinese

Sticking to a high fruit and vegetable diet may substantially diminish cardiovascular disease rates in older adults.

The purpose of this study was to ascertain cardiovascular disease risk in elderly men and women based on the level of consumption of fruits and vegetables. Researchers followed nearly 10,000 Chinese men and women aged 65 years and above, monitoring each participant's dietary habit and health over an average of 4 years.

Researchers discovered that participants who consumed the greatest amounts of fruits and vegetables had the lowest risk of having cardiovascular disease. The researchers recommend that elderly men and women should cultivate the habit of eating fruits and vegetables regularly to improve their chances of fending off cardiovascular disease.
