Ultra-Processed Foods and Human Health: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Prospective Cohort Studies

Preference for ultra-processed foods may promote the development of several chronic diseases, including obesity, hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia.

This study synthesized findings from past studies that analyzed the impact of high dietary ingestion of ultra-processed foods on the burden of chronic diseases. Researchers sifted through data extracted from 25 studies.

Researchers identified a surge in the incidence of obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and diabetes among devout consumers of ultra-processed foods. This study strengthens the body of evidence supporting the detrimental effects of ultra-processed foods on human health.
