Associations between Red Meat Intake and Sleep Parameters in Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Indulgence in red meat may exacerbate the symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea in patients with this condition.

This study assessed how eating red meat consistently can influence the severity of obstructive sleep apnea. Researchers monitored the red meat intake levels and sleep parameters in 243 patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Researchers discovered that participants who ate the highest amounts of red meat had the most severe form of obstructive sleep apnea. This study strengthened the body of evidence linking red meat consumption with worsening of obstructive sleep apnea.
