High Dietary Intake of Vegetable Protein Is Associated With Lower Prevalence of Renal Function Impairment: Results of the Dutch DIALECT-1 Cohort

Diets that promote the ingestion of proteins from vegetables may help hinder impairment of kidney function in patients with type 2 diabetes.

This study clarified the association between high dietary exposure to proteins from vegetables and the odds of suffering from renal impairment. Researchers charted the frequency of consumption of vegetables against the incidence of impaired kidney function in a study population comprising of 420 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Researchers identified a favorable relationship between heightened consumption of proteins from vegetables and reduced prevalence of renal impairment in the study population. Evidence from this study support the beneficial role vegetable proteins play in the prevention renal impairment in patients with type 2 diabetes.
