Higher diversity of vegetable consumption is associated with less airway inflammation and prevalence of asthma in school-aged children

Consistent consumption of different types of vegetables may favor asthma prevention in children.

This research work aimed to provide evidence that high dietary ingestion of vegetables can reduce airway inflammation and the occurrence of asthma in children. Researchers studied 647 children from Portugal with regards to their nutritional habits and asthma diagnostic status.

Researchers found out that children on diets rich in different types of vegetables tend to experience reduced airway inflammation and had improved odds of fending off asthma. The findings of this study support the consumption of different vegetables as a dietary approach for the prevention of asthma in children.
