Legume Consumption and Colorectal Adenoma Risk: A Meta-Analysis of Observational Studies.

Frequent consumers of legumes may be less prone to develop colorectal adenomas and cancer.

This study assessed the relationship between high dietary ingestion of legumes and the likelihood of developing adenomas and cancerous cells in the colon and rectum. A team of scientists reviewed data extracted from 11 studies conducted between January 1, 1966 and April 1, 2013 that examined the effect of consistent consumption of legumes on colorectal cancer and adenoma development risk.

Researchers observed habitual consumers of legumes had less chances of developing colorectal adenomas and cancer compared to individuals who rarely consumed or totally avoided legumes. The results from this study indicate that diets high in legumes may play a huge protective role against the development colorectal adenomas and cancer.
