Timing of food intake predicts weight loss effectiveness.

Eating early may contribute positively to the success of a weight loss program.

This study examined the relationship between food timing and weight loss. Researchers studied 420 subjects who were on a 20-week weight loss program. The subjects were divided into two groups: early lunch eaters and late lunch eaters. The clock genotype, serum concentrations of appetite hormones, energy intake and expenditure, and sleep duration and chronotype were assessed in all the subjects.

At the end of the weight loss program, researchers found out that early lunch eaters lost more weight than late lunch eaters. Similar serum concentrations of appetite hormones, sleep duration, and energy intake and expenditure were found in both groups in this study. The findings of this study reveal that eating early may help individuals on weight loss program to lose more pounds.
