The Association Between Passive Smoking and Type 2 Diabetes: a Meta-Analysis.

High exposure to second-hand smoke may increase an individual's risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

This study investigated the association between passive smoking and the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes. Researchers systematically reviewed 14 studies that examined passive smoking as a risk factor for type 2 diabetes. They found out that the risk of developing type 2 diabetes was high in individuals who frequently inhaled second-hand smoke. The findings of this meta-analysis lend further support to the hypothesis that passive smoking may be a contributing factor to the development of type 2 diabetes.
