    I get confused by conflicting advice. It seems that maybe there are multiple ways to the same success if they are based on a lot of greens and veggies. I have heard about Dr Brooke Goldner's protocol. This involves a lot of smoothies, raw veggies and large amounts of flaxseed and chia seeds.... I get confused by conflicting advice.     • I think one of the things that keeps coming to my mind is that there are many different protocols for the best way to eat Whole Food Plant Based and iI think one of the things that keeps coming to my mind is that there are many different protocols for the best way to eat Whole Food Plant Based and interestingly enough they all tend to get good results. Probably the similarities need to be focused on. The common thing about all of these is that they tend to have people not eat the modern american diet:
      Meat
      Oil
      Dairy
      Eggs
      Refined Foods
      Narcotic (addictive) Foods.

      We also note with interest that some of the 'protocols' are higher in fresh fruits and veggies and higher in fats while they avoid starches.

      Others are higher in starches while they reduce fats. That seems to be the big dividing line.

      It seems like people get results with both of these approaches. Both the starches and the fats provide the needed calories. One thing you might want to consider in all of this is the issue of Insulin Resistance. People can lose weight but still remain insulin resistant. If you search for the term "Insulin Resistance" on this site you will find a lot of information and in particular we have a patient who blogs here about his experiences and observations. He is a type 1 diabetic and an engineer who charted and graphed his way into a whole food plant based no oil diet about 35 years ago.

      Look for Ken Thomas on this site. He is also in the Diabetes Support Group.

      Hope this is some interesting food for thought.

      BTW, Insulin Sensitivity is desirable and Insulin Resistance is not. :-)

    I get confused about advise to handle leaky gut. I love Dr. Carney's recommended meal plan for the ability to keep me satiated. The problem is that I think legumes and yams may be foods I don't tolerate well. Should I just go with them in a low fat vegan high nutrient diet? Will my body heal?... Some people do experience bloating and gas when they increase their fiber intake--with beans and more high fiber foods--especially if these foods are new to them.     • I have actually been using a lot of yams and sweet potatoes for energy. I just completed a marathon with a time better than I have had in awhile. I am luckier than most but do have these food intolerances that have been increasing, and increased reactions; so I need to get this healed up. I don't know if I can heal if I use a food that might cause a histamine reaction. I am confused because I know beans are probably the best food I can use for healing  More ...

    Hi All,

      Has anyone with leaky gut had success healing their leaky gut?  Is it possible to do eating Dr. Carney's recommended diet? I'd love to hear tips and successes
