There's so much fiber in these northern-grown fruits. Biggest challenge is for me not to add grains like rice or oats to my 3rd meal. It may be just me but it makes it hard for me to sleep, it seems to create more acid. So I try to stick to just fruit. Sometimes I'll just have 2 meals a day and focus on starches, leafy veggies and whole grains. Or I'll have some berries on oatmeal for breakfast. That always fills me up.

I believe this is doable on a Starch-Smartest Diet
I am hoping with strict adherence within 6 months but
I'm in it for the long run regardless

Hi I just joined yesterday after hearing Dr Carney at the summit. Great talk! I had never heard about 17 ways caffeine inhibits weight loss. This helps a lot to overcome my long time on and off struggle with a diet coke addiction. I am a 71 year old man who has followed a vegan diet for over nine years.
Sometimes my vegan diet has been very good and sometimes my addiction to Sugar, fat, and oil has sabotaged my best intentions. My diet has been good enough so far to stay out of the hospital but not enough to overcome markers of heart disease and diabetes and obesity. When my pre-diabetes recently climbed into the diabetes zone I knew my life depended on a new commitment to action. I have committed to the Heart Smartes Plan. Yesterday my first day on the plan was delightful. the food ways great and and I had no trouble waiting for the next mealtime. This new for me. Also drinking much more water is new for me as well. I can fell the benefits already. my weight is down in one day 1.5 lbs. ( salt) My Blood sugar is down. i feel deeply rested from more sleep and there is joy in my heart. I know I can do this with the support of this group. Thanks such for being here and for creating this website.

I have dropped a dress/pant size since January. But I'm hoping to keep losing. I try to eat only fruits for supper and this is helping--I focus on northern grown fruits. Lately, I have a small bowl of frozen blueberries and an apple. It seems to be working.

I agree with Dr. Carney's suggestion and my first meal of the day is my biggest and then I taper from there to my smallest meal. I try to finish eating by 4 p.m. but some days it's 6 p.m. I also eat greens with my breakfast meal. That really helps me control cravings for unhealthy foods during the day. It's like magic. :-)  More ...

I know starting the day with "VFB" or Veggies For Breakfast seems to do a lot of magic for me, but I never considered a fruit based dinner; Not so sure I should as for a 2nd breakfast I'll usually have an oatmeal with fruit. Not to mention that just fruit for dinner I don't know how my body would react and cause me to want MORE sugar?

And, itWe love our lighter fruit based evening meals. It helps us sleep better, not to be too full, and to have eaten such quickly digesting foods. And, it is sure a tasty treat each evening. The secret is to have a large breakfast and a big lunch so that when the evening meal time rolls around you are not feeling super hungry and so do not give in to the temptation to over eat.  More ...
