Association between sugar-sweetened beverages and waist circumference in adult populations: A meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies

Generous drinking of sugary beverages may lead to piling up of excess pounds in the waist and consequently unhealthy waist circumference in men and women.

Can fondness for sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) affect the size of an individual's waist? In a bid to answer this question, researchers sifted through data and evidence compiled from 7 studies. 

Data analysis revealed that devout drinking of sugary beverages can increase the waist circumference of both men and women by as much as 31%. This study highlights the detrimental effect taking sugar-sweetened beverages can have on the deposition of excess weight on the waist in men and women.
