Phytoestrogens and Risk of Prostate Cancer: An Updated Meta-Analysis of Epidemiologic Studies

High dietary exposure to foods rich in certain phytoestrogens, including daidzein , genistein, and glycitein, may help fend off prostate cancer.

The objective of this meta-analysis was to determine the risk of prostate cancer associated with the ingestion of phytoestrogen-containing foods. Researchers compiled data extracted from 23 studies involving 11,346 men with prostate cancer and 140,177 healthy men.

The team of researchers noted that frequent consumers of foods rich in certain phytoestrogens, including daidzein , genistein, and glycitein, demonstrated a significant reduction in prostate cancer risk. "The results support the notion that some phytoestrogens may have a role in decreasing the risk of prostate cancer," the authors concluded.
