Association between ultra-processed foods intake with lipid profile: a cross-sectional study

Increased intake of ultra-processed foods may result in unhealthy lipid profiles in men and women.

This study investigated how ultra-processed food consumption affects lipid profile. Using validated food frequency questionnaires, researchers collated and evaluated data on the ultra-processed food intake levels of 236 Iranian men and women aged 20-50 years. The serum lipid concentrations of all the participants in this study were also measured regularly.

Researchers found a strong connection between abnormalities in blood levels of triglycerides and high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and elevated dietary ingestion of ultra-processed foods. This study affirmed that indulgence in ultra-processed foods may have a negative impact on the lipid profiles of men and women.
