Association between dietary carotenoid intakes and the risk of asthma in adults: a cross-sectional study of NHANES, 2007-2012

High dietary ingestion of carotenoids may help to keep asthma at bay.

The objective of this study was to confirm the protective effect of foods rich in carotenoids against asthma. Researchers used a combination of questionnaires and medical records to track the dietary choices and health of 13,039 US men and women.

Researchers observed that increased intake of carotenoid-containing foods resulted in a significant decline in asthma risk. This study suggested that foods high in carotenoids should constitute a large portion of an asthma preventive diet.
