Long-Term Consumption of Sugar-Sweetened and Artificially Sweetened Beverages and Risk of Mortality in US Adults.

Regular consumption of sugary beverages may elevate cardiovascular mortality risk in men and women.

​This study assessed whether long-term consumption of sugary beverages can increase an individual's risk of dying prematurely. Researchers monitored the soft drink consumption levels and mortality records in a study population comprising of over 110,000 men and women who were totally free from any form of chronic disease. 

Researchers discovered that avid consumers of sugary drinks faced increased risk of suffering from premature deaths due to cardiovascular diseases. This study provides evidence that high cardiovascular mortality risk is associated with habitual intake of sugary beverages.
