Ultra-processed food consumption and dental caries in children and adolescents: a systematic review and meta-analysis

The likelihood of having dental caries may be high in children and adolescents fond of consuming ultra-processed foods.

This meta-analysis reviewed the results of previously published studies that assessed the association between heavy intake of ultra-processed foods and the incidence of dental caries in children and adolescents . Data from a total of 27 studies were included in this meta-analysis.

Researchers noted that the higher the amount of ultra-processed food consumed, the greater the chances that children and adolescents will suffer from dental caries. The findings of this study revealed that frequent ingestion of ultra-processed foods may promote the development of dental caries in children and adolescents.
