Relationship Between Dietary Fiber and Vitamin C Intake and Oral Cancer

Including more foods abundant in fiber and vitamin C in our diets may offer us an extra layer of protection against oral (mouth) cancer.

This study assessed the risk of oral (mouth) cancer based on the level of intake of foods rich in fiber and vitamin C. Researchers gathered information about the diet of 382 persons with oral cancer and another 382 individuals without the disease.

Researchers observed that the greater the amounts of foods high in fiber and vitamin C eaten by individuals, the lesser their chances of being diagnosed with cancer of the mouth. The findings of this study support the addition of foods packed with fiber and vitamin C as part of an oral cancer protective diet.
