Dietary fiber intake in early pregnancy and risk of subsequent preeclampsia

Early boarding of the dietary fiber train in pregnancy may help to keep preeclampsia at bay.

This study analyzed the intake of fiber from food sources during early pregnancy in relation to the development of preeclampsia. Researchers looked at the dietary patterns and incidence of preeclampsia among 1,538 American women.

Researchers noted that the tendency that a pregnant woman will suffer from preeclampsia decreased significantly with increase in the rate of consumption of fiber-rich foods. Evidence from this study show that high dietary ingestion of fiber may help curb the onset of preeclampsia in pregnant women.
