Cereal, Fruit and Vegetable Fibre Intake and the Risk of the Metabolic Syndrome: A Prospective Study in the Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study

High dietary ingestion of fiber from fruits may confer an individual with significant protection against metabolic syndrome.

This study evaluated the risk of metabolic syndrome associated with the intake of fiber from food sources. Scientists from Iran reviewed dietary data that covered a 3-year period from 240 individuals diagnosed with metabolic syndrome and another 1342 persons without the condition.

The research team discovered that consistent consumers of fiber from fruits had slight chances of developing metabolic syndrome. Based on the data from this study, there is a protective association between dietary intake of fruit fiber and metabolic syndrome.
