Increased vegetable and fruit intake is associated with reduced failure rate of tuberculosis treatment: a hospital-based cohort study in China

Devout consumption of fruits and vegetables may reduce treatment failure rates in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (TB).

This study determined if the intake of fruits and vegetables can affect treatment outcome in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (TB). Researchers tracked the diets of 2,301 TB patients undergoing treatment in China.

Researchers noticed a trend towards reduced rate of treatment failure among patients on high fruit and vegetable diet. This study provides material evidence that pulmonary TB patients on treatment who include more fruits and vegetables in their diets may have high chances of responding to anti-tuberculosis drugs successfully.
