Guava Fruit and Acacia pennata Vegetable Intake Association with Frailty of Older Adults in Northern Thailand

Imbibing the habit of eating fruits and vegetables, such as guava, may help elderly individuals to fight off frailty.

This study analyzed the correlation between high dietary ingestion of fruits and vegetables and the onset of frailty in older people. Researchers used questionnaires to collect data and examined the dietary habits and prevalence of frailty among 350 elderly persons from Thailand.

Researchers found a low rate of occurrence of frailty among participants who maintained a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, such as guava and acacia pennata. "These findings may assist in health promotion programs of frailty prevention by encouraging an increase in consumption of either guava fruit or acacia pennata vegetable among Thai elderly," the authors concluded.
