Dietary vitamin and carotenoid intake and risk of age-related cataract.

Consistent consumption of foods high in some vitamins and carotenoids, including lutein, zeaxanthin, beta-carotene, vitamin A, and C, may help fend off cataracts.

This study investigated whether high ingestion of foods rich in vitamins and carotenoids is tied to lower risk of cataract. Researchers sifted through data extracted from 12 studies and 8 randomized control trials (RCTs).

Researchers noticed that increased intake of foods packed with lutein, zeaxanthin, beta-carotene, vitamin A, and C significantly decreased the odds of having cataracts. The findings of this study reveal that avid consumption of certain dietary vitamins and carotenoids may confer individuals with significant protection against cataracts.
