​This study examined the effect of consistent consumption of legumes on the risk of dying from cardiovascular disease and other ailments. Researchers used data obtained from more than 100,000 subjects who participated in 6 studies. 

Researchers noted that subjects in the highest category of legume intake had lower risk of suffering from deaths associated with cardiovascular disease and other ailments than their peers who rarely consumed or completely avoided these types of foods. Data from this study indicate that regular intake of generous portions of legumes may help to substantially reduce the number of deaths due to cardiovascular ailments and other diseases.
