Processed meat intake and chronic disease morbidity and mortality: An overview of systematic reviews and meta-analyses

Generous consumption of processed meat products may boost an individual's chances of acquiring and dying from chronic diseases, such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, and type 2 diabetes.

​This study evaluated the impact of regular ingestion of processed meat on the likelihood of developing and dying from chronic diseases using a meta-analytic approach. Data from 22 studies were included in this meta-analysis. 

Researchers noticed that the odds of being diagnosed and even dying from chronic diseases, such as cancer, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease, went up with increased intake of processed meat products. This study highlights the detrimental effect of processed meats on chronic disease development and mortality risk.
