A Prospective Study of Dietary Meat Intake and Risk of Incident Chronic Kidney Disease

Devout consumption of meaty diets may precipitate the occurrence of chronic kidney disease in men and women.

The purpose of this study was to determine the association between indulgence in a meaty diet and the probability of suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD). Researchers from Iran surveyed the diet and chronic kidney disease diagnosis status of 4,881 men and women recruited from the Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study Cohort.

Researchers identified an upward trend in the incidence of chronic kidney disease among meat eaters. This study further strengthened the body of evidence supporting an increased propensity of meat consumers to chronic kidney disease.
