Statins may facilitate Parkinson's disease: Insight gained from a large, national claims database.

​​A significant elevation in Parkinson's disease risk is associated with the use of statin drugs.

This study examined the association between statin usage and Parkinson's disease risk. Researchers analyzed data obtained from 2,322 cases of Parkinson's disease.

Researchers found a higher incidence of Parkinson's disease among users of statin medications, especially lipophilic statins. The findings of this study show that statins may accelerate the onset of Parkinson's disease.
