Dietary intake of fibre and risk of knee osteoarthritis in two US prospective cohorts

Strict adherence to a high fiber diet may shield an individual from knee osteoarthritis.

This study was carried out to confirm the protective effect of high fiber diet against knee osteoarthritis. The study population included more than 6,000 American men and women who were part of Osteoarthritis Initiative (OAI) and Framingham Offspring Osteoarthritis Study.

Researchers noticed that a favorable association between fondness for fiber-rich foods and reduced susceptibility to osteoarthritis of the knee. Data from this study show that individuals can cut down their risk of suffering from osteoarthritis of the knee by adding more high-fiber foods to their diet.
