Obesity and Risk of Colorectal Cancer: A Meta-Analysis of 31 Studies With 70,000 Events

​Obesity may fuel the development of colorectal cancer.

​The purpose of this meta-analysis was to systematically review the effect of obesity on colorectal cancer risk. Researchers culled data from 31 studies that assessed the link between obesity and colorectal cancer. 

Researchers found a positive association between obesity and heightened colorectal cancer risk. A 2 kg/m2 increase in body mass index (BMI) was observed to increase the likelihood of colorectal cancer by 7% in this study. Data from this study reveal that obesity may promote the development of colorectal cancer.
